Vedic Astrology – Full Moon in Capricorn – Guru Purnima

On July 22, 2013 at approximately 2 PM Eastern time the moon will be full in Capricorn. The full moon is opposite the sun, which is in Cancer at this time. This Sun in Cancer is illuminating the need for a heart connection in all areas of life. We are seeing where love is found and where love is lacking in our life. We are seeing our capacity to give and our capacity to receive love. Cancer is the sign of our emotions and feelings in the moment. The full moon is opposite Cancer, in Capricorn – a sign of structure, boundaries and commitments. The practical and realistic approach of Capricorn lies in stark contrast to the emotional longings of Cancer. The balance between immature and innocent emotions and mature, rational realities of life are being teased out with this full moon.

Nakshatra of Uttara Ashada

This full moon will happen in the Nakshatra of Uttara Ashada, which means “Later victory”. It is ruled by the Vishwa Devas – The Universal God’s. Those Gods include karma (action), kala (time), dharma (truth), kama (desire) – among others. When we hear the word “God” we tend to think of something religious. But actually it just means “higher power”. There are many higher powers. In fact you might say, that when you create a painting or a story, you are the “God” of it. You are the overlord of it. You created it. Before you it did not exist.

This Nakshatra shows how victory is guaranteed if we honor these universal powers. In fact, there is always a victory of one thing over another. Many times though something undesirable is victorious over something desirable. For instance, if our heart is filled with darkness and pain, that will be our truth (dharma), we will act upon it (karma), over and over again (kala), etc.

This Nakshatra bridges Sagittarius and Capricorn, the signs where our beliefs and purpose become deeply embedded routines and commitments.

Guru Purnima

This particular full moon is a very special holiday, one where we pay our respects and give homage to our teachers, our gurus. It is said that on this day our mind is most capable of seeing the truth and connecting to our teachings and the deeper meanings behind them than on any other day. So make sure to do powerful meditations on this day and connect with your teachers. There is a high capacity to get the meaning of what they are trying to tell you.

Jupiter, Mars and Mercury in Gemini/Ardra
These three planets in Gemini makes for a lot of intellectual battles and clarification. Jupiter refers to our principles. Mars shows if our actions reflect those principles. Mercury shows the capacity to adjust and accommodate new information and strategies, as well as giving discrimination that allows us to change course.

All of these planets are in Gemini, but also in the Nakshatra of Ardra, which is ruled by the fierce form of Lord Shiva. There’s a lot of transformation and shocking revelation possible now. These revelations will challenge you to be more congruent with your principles, act in accordance with them and make the necessary changes if that is appropriate.

Saturn and Rahu in Libra – Swati Nakshatra
Exalted Saturn is now moving direct, and still joined Rahu. They are in Libra, rewarding relationship integrity. They are also in Swati Nakshatra, ruled by Rahu. Thus, a restlessness and eccentric desire to expand your partnership or connection can be seen now. Swati gives the power to “scatter like the wind”. You may see your relationship scattering a bit, especially if there is not a lot of honesty and love flowing.

Venus in Leo

This placement can be hard on relationships, as there is a demand for respect and praise – and we may take it too far. However, there’s also a great amount of affection and passion here. Don’t be surprised if women especially suddenly one be treated like the Queen.

The End of Materialism: How Evidence of the Paranormal is Bringing Science and Spirit Together By: Charles Tart PhD

Charles Tart reconciles the scientific and spiritual worlds by looking at empirical evidence for the existence of paranormal phenomena that point toward our spiritual nature, including telepathy, clairvoyance, precognition, psychokinesis, and psychic healing.

Science seems to tell us that we are all meaningless products of blind biological and chemical forces, leading meaningless lives that will eventually end in death. The truth is that unseen forces such as telepathy, clairvoyance, precognition, psychokinesis, psychic healing, and other phenomena inextricably link us to the spiritual world, and while many skeptics and scientists deny the existence of these spiritual phenomena, the experiences of millions of people indicate that they do take place.

In this book, co-published with the Institute of Noetic Sciences (IONS), transpersonal psychologist Charles Tart presents over fifty years of scientific research conducted at the nation’s leading universities that proves humans do have natural spiritual impulses and abilities. The End of Materialism presents an elegant argument for the union of science and spirituality in light of this new evidence, and explains why a truly rational viewpoint must address the reality of a spiritual world. Tart’s work marks the beginning of an evidence-based spiritual awakening that will profoundly influence your understanding of the deeper forces at work in our lives.

Charles T. Tart, Ph.D., is a core faculty member of the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology in Palo Alto, CA. He is internationally known for his psychological work on the nature of consciousness, particularly on altered states of consciousness, and for his research in scientific parapsychology. He is one of the founders of the field of transpersonal psychology. Tart’s two classic books, “Altered States of Consciousness” and “Transpersonal Psychologies,” were instrumental in introducing these areas to modern psychology. He lives in the San Francisco Bay Area.
