True Awakening, Part 2

Advaita On Zen And Tao by Ramesh S. Balsekar (Author)

Insights On Huang Po & Lao Tzu

We are at a unique moment in the evolution of spirituality. For centuries, sages of various traditions around the world have been expressing the Truth of non-duality; and their disciples have been faithfully preserving the teachings and passing them on. But it is only now, in this era of advances in mass communication, that it has become possible for a living sage of one tradition, to produce commentaries inspired by the mystical traditions of another.

Imagine if Chuang Tzu had written a commentary on the Bhagavad Gita, or if the sage Jnaneshwar had produced reflections on the Heart Sutra! Within these pages a similar dream has been realised – commentaries on the teachings of the revered Zen Master Huang Po, and a modern Book of the Way inspired by Lao Tzu’s Tao Te Ching, both written by Advaita Master Ramesh S. Balsekar.

The repetition of tradition cannot be termed as wrong, but when the teaching is embodied the teacher is at liberty to put it in his own words instead – because he is It. Ramesh’s words bridge the apparent gap of centuries and geographical boundaries, revealing the hidden Truth behind the illusion of time and space: Advaita, Zen, and Tao.

Ramesh Balsekar, author of over 20 books, discusses the Indian philosophy of Advaita daily at his residence in Mumbai, with visitors from around the world. The basic concept is that “all there is, is Consciousness;” all actions are happenings, the functioning of the Primal Energy, and not the doing by anyone. He has a unique focus on what we all have to deal with in our daily living. His teaching has

Ramesh S. Balsekar, married to Sharda and a father of three, is known and loved by seekers from around the world as an eloquent Master of Advaita, or Non-duality. After retiring as President of the Bank of India, Ramesh translated many of the daily talks given in Marathi by his Guru, Nisargadatta Maharaj. The teaching began in 1982 after Maharaj had twice directed him to talk, and since then he has written over twenty books on Advaita as well. Ramesh is widely regarded as undeniably unique and uncompromising in his presentation of the concepts, in keeping with an early premonitory remark by Maharaj that as a teacher Ramesh would not be “parroting” the words of his Guru. In response to the appreciation frequently shared by visitors at his talks for the singular clarity and `purity` of the teaching, Ramesh himself has perhaps best expressed it with his view of the Master-disciple relationship: “The purity of the teaching lies in the absence of an individual teacher and an individual learner – that is to say, in the absence of a subject-object relationship. The purity lies in the spontaneity of the happening.”

Runaway Realization: Living a Life of Ceaseless Discovery by A. H. Almaas [updated Mar 29, 2015 ]

For the first time in print, well-known spiritual teacher A. H. Almaas presents the highest level and most profound teachings of the Diamond Approach on the true nature of reality and the path to enlightenment.

The teaching in this book is off the map—because reality itself cannot be captured in a map. In fact, reality is far more alive, far more mysterious than anything we can conceive of. It is always revealing itself by knowing itself; and knowing reality and living it becomes the fulfillment of our life. A. H. Almaas, the originator of the Diamond Approach, here presents a new paradigm for understanding reality: the view of totality. He reveals that our life can become an endless revelation of reality, an adventure with neither beginning nor end.

A. H. Almaas has been developing and teaching the Diamond Approach, a spiritual path of self-realization and maturity based on an original synthesis of modern discoveries in the field of psychology and a new paradigm about spiritual nature, for more than thirty years. If we can say the Diamond Approach has a goal it is to realize the truth at progressively deeper levels until one reaches the ultimate Truth, the Absolute, and to become integrated into that truth so that we are a living presence and embodiment of that truth. The teachings of this path have been unfolding over time, and Runaway Realization presents—for the first time in print—the highest level of teachings in the Diamond Approach in the most profound work by Almaas so far. In this book, Almaas offers a detailed look at the true nature of reality and the nature of enlightenment. He also talks about practice—what it is and what it isn’t, and how practice relates to the process of realization. He looks at what it is to be a human being and what our role is in the totality of the universe. The material includes a discussion of the nature of space and time, as well as a view of more and more subtle levels of realization.

A. H. ALMAAS is the pen name of Hameed Ali, the Kuwaiti-born originator of the Diamond Approach, who has been guiding individuals and groups in Colorado, California, and Europe since 1976. He is the author of many books, including The Power of Divine Eros and The Unfolding Now.

Hameed Ali (A. H. Almaas) – 2nd Buddha at the Gas Pump Interview

Published on Mar 17, 2015

A. Hameed Ali was born in Kuwait in 1944. At the age of eighteen, he moved to the USA to study at the University of California in Berkeley. Hameed was working on his Ph.D. in physics when he reached a turning point in his life and destiny that led him more and more into inquiring into the psychological and spiritual aspects of human nature.

Hameed’s interest in the truth of human nature and the true nature of reality resulted in the creation and unfoldment of the Diamond Approach®:

“The Diamond Approach is a path of wisdom, an approach to the investigation of Reality and work on oneself that leads to human maturity and liberation. Because of our particular vision of Reality it is not completely accurate to think of this approach as spiritual work, for this work does not separate the spiritual from the psychological, neither does it see these two as separate from the physical everyday life and scientific investigation of the content of perception. However, because we live in a society where the prevailing thought is that of the separated facets of Reality, the closest category recognized in this mentality, to our approach, is that of a spiritual path or exploration.”

Perception And Reality – Hameed Ali (A. H. Almaas)

Does perception in nondual or other kinds of spiritual realization reveal what reality actually is? Many teachings emphasize that enlightenment is seeing how things actually are. However, the vision of reality given by the various teachings vary in significant ways. Does this mean one of them is the right one or are all correct? What are the implications about reality in either case? I will present a vision of perception in spiritual realization that parallels the view in quantum theory of the relation between the observer and reality. Since in spiritual realization reality is more fundamental than the observer, actually manifesting the observer, the vision brings in the subtleties of realization and why there are many kinds. Reality becomes a much more mysterious truth than the view of any kind of realization, which requires encompassing the various views of enlightenment.
