    Mr. Eckhart Tolle:

I find the posts in evolutionary mystic post quite interesting and in consort with much of my own thinking. However the site is flawed unless it is my computer (which is doubtful). When I press the button to read more I get this directory-like listing of what I assume are past posts. When I hit any of them I get back to the directory. It is frustrating for me and your ideas are not going anywhere on this site.

I have read The Power of Now and found it very interesting. Much of your work, if I am correct, is about how to live life fully by engaging it in the present moment which is really all that exists. Despite NOW being everpresent with us, most live in their memory trace mental representations of past and anticipation of future.

I have been thinking about such issues for decades. I have a theory based on several developmental psychology researchers that we don’t live in the present because we become identified with mental representations (reps) which I call representational identification. Different forms of mental reps become available to the growing child in the normal developmental process. The problem is that due to non optimal parenting, especially at critical vulnerable stages, the child comes to identify with mental reps that provide an inadequate form of emotional soothing. Such identification is driven by past hurtful experiences that taint the present with fear. Thus most of us tend to live in our past-based minds avoiding now because it has held too much pain. This is the norm and causes much distress and conflict in the world.

Thank you for your work in the world.
